Social media is a platform intended to give the audience inter-connectivity to other people, information, business, and entertainment. The globalization of social media has been fueled by the mix of business marketing and personal use (Flew, 2011). This was achieved by social media sites catering for external websites content by integrating them together. Social media is present from big business to small business websites through the birth of sharing. Social media is not just limited to social networking sites. YouTube is the worlds largest source of video content, Facebook has over a billion personal profiles, and Twitter provides the perfect platform for celebrities to publicly disgrace themselves in under 140 words. Social media consists of many platforms that cater for many types of media. This blog post is going to explore how social media sites can act as a double-edged sword in the games industry by focusing on Peter Molyneux’s recent spotlight. This is my second blog for Digital Media and Society.
